I am taking a big breath and jumping into the 2010 year as President. The best part of this job is the opportunity to work with some incredible people. We do have some board member changes which are new people to get to know better, new ideas to share, and new opportunities to learn and expand our horizons. SDMHA benefits from the leadership and wisdom of all our dynamic and dedicated committee members. I encourage everyone to get involved in the association. Believe me, you will get so much more than what you put in by just being involved!
This has been a tough past year in the rental industry with vacancies at its highest percentage in years. I think each of us has had to find new and inventive ways to achieve our rental goals. We may compete in the same industry but I’d like to remind everyone that we are in this industry together. What some of you may not know is that the vacancy survey that is sent to you reflects on many decisions in our community. Being honest on this survey helps everyone. This survey is used when a property is assessed for value, in lending reports, and various other areas of reporting. We all take pride in what we do but accurate numbers and returning this report helps everyone in the long run.
I look forward to an exciting year. I know our Legislative Committee is forging on in the attempts to get South Dakota on the national registry for criminal background checks. We are finding more groups and city officials supporting us in this fight. I am confident we can stand united to support this move.
Please make sure you refer to this Rental Review or on our website at www.sdmha.com when looking for a vendor. Our vendors are the best who support our organization. Please utilize their services!
