Community Development Announces
New Rental Rehabilitation Program
Sioux Falls, South Dakota: The City of Sioux Falls office of Community Development announced today it is now accepting applications for a new Rental Housing Rehabilitation Program focused in a core neighborhood. The Rental Housing Rehabilitation Program is available to rental housing property owners with residential properties located within the Pettigrew Heights Neighborhood boundaries as defined by the City of Sioux Falls.
Eligible repairs may include insulation, new windows and doors, new roofing, new siding, and house painting. Property must be an existing rental property located within the Pettigrew Heights Neighborhood. Assistance will be in the form of a low-interest amortized loan to property owners. The program will be funded by a 0 percent loan from the South Dakota Housing Development Authority.
“Many of our programs to date have focused on sustaining and improving owner-occupied properties, and that focus will continue; but the reality is that as much as 70 percent of residential properties in neighborhoods like Pettigrew Heights are rental properties. These residents and these neighborhoods deserve quality, affordable housing as well, and we will not be able to stabilize and revitalize these core neighborhoods without addressing rental properties,” stated Darrin Smith, Director of Community Development for the City of Sioux Falls. Smith added, “If this program is successful, we will absolutely look to expand the program to other core neighborhoods in the future.”
Call Community Development at 367-8180 or stop in our office at 235 West Tenth Street in the lower level of Carnegie Town Hall for more information or to request an application.
