Maintenance Mania® Participant Rulebook

Maintenance Mania® is a national competition where maintenance technicians compete against each other in skill-based games built around common maintenance activities. The competition includes a pinewood derby style car race where the cars are made out of maintenance supplies.

NAA affiliates host Maintenance Mania® events across the country to recognize maintenance technicians with awards, prizes and bragging rights. Winners from each local event get a chance to qualify for a spot at the National Championship held at the annual NAA Education Conference & Exposition.

Maintenance Mania® Games

There are eight events that are standard for all Maintenance Mania® programs. Each race is open to every Maintenance Mania® participant. Click on the links below to view a video demonstration of the game.

Awards & Prizes

Awards are determined by each affiliate for their event.  It is recommended that awards be given to the three fastest competitors in each of the eight events.

Maintenance technicians are recognized for their speed and skills by their NAA affiliates with certificates, trophies or prizes. Each local event is organized individually by the affiliates with support from their vendor members so the form of recognition offered may vary but the following categories are usually awarded:

  • First, Second and Third Place for the overall event
  • First Place for each of the individual games
  • Best Use of Maintenance Supplies in a Race Car
  • People’s Choice Race Car

Participants must compete in all eight games to win the overall event and to qualify for the National Championship.

How to Compete

More than 10,000 maintenance technicians have signed up to compete in Maintenance Mania® since the program’s introduction. Participants do not need to be members of their local NAA affiliate to sign up, but must members or employed by a member in order to qualify for the National Championship.

If you are interested in competing, please check the Event Calendar or contact your local affiliate.

For contact information for your local affiliate, please visit the NAA Affiliate Directory.

Participants can only compete in one Maintenance Mania® event each year.

National Championship

The Maintenance Mania® National Championship decides who will be the Fastest Maintenance Technician in the Country. Over 500 spectators crowd the arena on the floor of the NAA Education Conference & Exposition to watch the best technicians compete for the Championship Cup, a Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians (CAMT) scholarship*, and a pot of more than $20,000 in cash and prizes.

Each year, 20 finalists are selected to receive free air fare, hotel accommodations, and registration to the NAA Education Conference & Exposition. The participant with the fastest combined time in each of the 10 NAA regions qualifies as a Regional Finalist. The Wild Card Finalists are then selected from the next 10 fastest times across all the regions.
