| Richard Landborg, Board Member — Richard was born, raised and educated in eastern Iowa. Richard accepted a position as chemistry professor at Augustana College in 1959 after earning a doctorate in chemistry from the U of Iowa. A highlight of the teaching years was a year’s assignment in Panama as a Fulbright professor at the Catholic University. The automobile/camping trip from Sioux Falls through Mexico & Central to Panama kindled a life-long interest in the Latin world. He has since traveled to Central and South America 16 times! He and his wife began investing in older residential properties in 1972 after reading Bill Nickerson’s book, How I Turned $1000 into Three Million in Real Estate in My Spare Time. Richard left teaching in 1979 to ‘massage property’ full time & at one time, owned & managed 145 units, presently, a more manageable 72 units plus several office/retail buildings. Son, Jeff, is a partner in the most recent ventures. The thought of retiring early next year—again—looks very appealing! Richard was President of SDMHA for several years in the past. The present general meeting dinner format that began 3 decades ago probably kept the Association alive during its ‘formative years’. |
